TT (Mk1) DiscussionDiscussion forum for the Mk1 Audi TT Coupe & Roadster produced from 2000-2006
For the first time in 23 years, Audi knocked the Porsche 911 off its pedestal when the sensational TT Coupé was voted, "Best Sports Car of the Year 1999".
The Audi TT Coupé was awarded this prestigious accolade by 121,387 readers of Europe's premier motoring magazine, auto motor und sport.
In winning the Best Sports Car category, the Audi TT ended the 23-year reign of the Porsche 911 (in various guises) which has won the gong since the poll was first introduced in 1977, causing something of a sensation in Europe.
The Audi TT Coupé won an impressive 28.1 per cent of readers votes to secure its place in the magazine's history, and in the hearts and minds of the European public.
Huge demand for the TT Coupé in Europe has meant that Audi will delay the worldwide launch of its revolutionary Roadster variant to try and fulfil some of the many current customer orders for the vehicle.
In Australia, the launch of the TT Coupé is fast approaching with the first customer orders expected to be filled in June. To date around 200 orders, with signed deposits, have been placed for the Audi TT Coupé by Australian customers.
