Default Re: Almost for sure it's your thermostat going bad

Paul,
Is it really necessary to remove TB to do the thermostat on the 2000 A8 5V?

Default Thermostat Change on 40 V 4.2

I can confirm that it is not necessary to remove the Timing Belt on my 2000 A8L 4.2 to change the thermostat. It does require removal of serpentine belt, the non-electric fan and the viscous clutch but no hose clamps needed removal. I did need to loosen the timing belt to flex it enough to get the thermostat manifold far enough away from the engine to slide the old stat out and the new one in.
