Default Should I use this tranny filter? Blau vs OEM

Click the image to open in full size.

Ok I'm trying to get the tranny fluid changed on my '97 A8Q before my next long trip ( I swear I'll get to those videos when I get back!). I drained it last night, and removed the pan today.
Got ready to put in the new filter and it looks a bit different than the original one. On the new one the pickup only sticks down about 1/4" and the original one sticks down about 1". Sure looks like I'm asking to run the pump dry more easily. I'm sure I'm just being a bit ****, but what do you guys think?

Britt

Default DO NOT put it in

It's not the right one....Tozo will chime in I'm sure....I would see if the dealer has one and just go with that.

Default Second--don't use. Is pan gasket wrong too???

I think you have one filter turned 180 degrees from the other based on where the "out" side of the flow is (underneath in your picture). Obviously there are differences in the suction side depth as well as its location--compare it to where the "out" flow is side to side.

If you have the wrong filter, check your gasket too. One time I was sent a set from another place that was not for the right ZF tranny, and the gasket was wrong too--different pan shape. I noticed with the last blau set I bought, which was correct, that they seem to have sourced the filter separate from the gasket, so maybe they just got the filter wrong.

Make sure you have and use the o ring for the filter too.

Default I think Tozo has posted pictures before

After his 97 tranny, he put in a 2000 tranny, and I think it had the filter you show there.....

If yours is a 97, it could have one of three type trannies, it's listed on audipages.com.....you need to get the one for your tranny.

It won't work and damage would most likely occur.

Default Wrong one...

For what it's worth, the one you say came out of your car looks like the one in my A6 4.2 that also uses the same 5HP24A tranny. And, blau sent me one that looks the same as the one I pulled in every dimension--suction height and location, general shape, thickness, bolt hole location, o ring/seal type, etc.

Default Make sure you tell them the tranny code. Even if it looks like this,

the pickup pipe length changed over the years. Newer A8 has a 1/2" shorter pickup pipe.

Just joking.
