What is aluminum and what isn't?

Hello All:

I know Audi A8 is of course constructed of aluminum -- however what about the hood? I know on many German cars the hood is fiberglass. The dealer where I bought my 2000 A8 (NOT an Audi dealer) is having the hood painted (because of chips on it) and they said they know they cannot touch the rest of the car but the hood they can because it is fiberglass. Is that true?

This happened to me this past February. You can clearly see the bare aluminum shining through. I did the paint prep myself and I'm no expert bodyshop. You can paint anything that the primer sticks to!

Other than that, it's just body work.....but you need to use the proper fastners also.

I would think they (the experts) could tell by touching it that it's not fiberglass.

Are you going to replace it with carbon fiber?
