headrest repair - fastener size

Following tozo's lead, I pulled my driver's seat apart to fix the headrest, and discovered that the previous owner had apparently started the job and gave up after thoroughly bodging the head of one of the screws that has to be removed.

Hopefully I'll be able to get it out with an ez-out. Can someone tell me what size that fastener is *before* I take it apart? Thanks!

If you not able to take it apart, then you should do the other way that someone else posted. Just cut the black plastic tube and cut off like 1/4 ". Then just attach them together with a hose and hose clamps. The problem with the headrest is the cable is too short, so eventually it goes into the motor too far. By shortening the outer tube the problem is fixed.

In Tozo's procedure, first the leather trim is separated from the seat back by "unzipping" that plastic seal all the way around. Then the back is removed, to expose the motor and cable. The back is attached by a (brass? colored) screw at each side near the floor.

In my case, I can't get at the cable, because I can't remove the seat back -- because the (Phillips?) screw head is stripped. An EZout might get it out. Or not -- in which case I guess I'll have to drill it and tap it. So I was wondering what size that screw is.

I figured I'd just shoot a gob of caulk into the lower receptacle to prevent the cable shaft from slipping too deep into the motor.

I don't remember what size are the screws, but should be M4 or M5. You can drill the head off and when the seat back is out, you can take the rest out with a wisegrip. Email me so I can send the pictures for the procedure.
