Default Received Taidan Garage Remote

My performance center has a whole lot of tools in it these days, have an old garage door opener with just one code which could be stolen.

You can buy an upgrade from Home Depot for about $50 to change your standard garage door opener system to a Genie rolling code system so the code can't be stolen. My garage is one of many up and down an alley.

So I ordered a Taidan garage remote from Ben (brittmo@xmission.com), for $36, including shipping.

Here it is, you just use the supplied insulation displacement connectors and hook it up to the high beams on the car. Flash the high beams and it opens the door!

Now to get the upgrade from Home Depot and hook both up!

Default Me too!

I installed mine in the headlight cover and it fits perfectly. I'm really pleased with the result!

Default Nice, did you ever get the Phatbox working? Wasn't it the VW one?

Default Yep, VW Phatbox works fine, but...

I had to go postal on Audi and PB to get the special cable for the Audi. The ONLY diff between the Audi and VW boxes is a stupid cable that hooks to the changer input of the head unit. I still have a little installation problem, because the cable sticks about 3-4 inches straight out the "back" of the PB. The box doesn't slide back far enough to put the wheel well cover back on. I tried building my own cable but my soldering isn't up to the task, apparently. I need to ohm out the OEM cable again and make sure I didn't make a mistake on wiring.

The photo above is where the PB sits now, and where it needs to sit to put the wheel cover back on.

Default Oooo... where where where?

Cool! Should I just email him directly to get one of these?

Do they work for non-Genie systems?

Default He has a couple of models

One version is for Genie systems and he has another... but I forget the other brand. Email him and tell him you found out about it on the AudiWorld forum. He's been great to Audi owners.

Default Re: Received Taidan Garage Remote

Does it transmit a signal as long as the highbeams are on... or does it require a quite on/off?

IE: If I drive up to my house with the highs on, will the garage door open?
