Default Tires--Will 235/55/17 Protect My Wheels ???

I have the stock 17" wheels and I have rubbed
my rims front and back 3 or 4 times in the year
that I've owned it parallal parking. I've
touched gently. So will 235 width instead of
225 solve this problem? I'm getting Michelin
Pilot Sport A/S. Also will the wider tire
be noticable or ruin the look of the wheels.
Thanks

Ming Blue/Indigo and loving it.

Default Very slightly ...

Since it's only very slightly wider, it'll add only minimal protection, but it'll look fine. I've seen the 245/50-17's on Paul's car, and they look great. Unfortunately, I don't believe an all-season tire is available in this size; he's running a Pirelli PZero, definitely a summer only tire.

Another suggestion -- Some tires have "rim protectors", a heavy rubber strip near the bead, to protect against curb rash. You might want to post a question to Gary@Tirerack in the wheel/tire forum and ask for his recommendation for an A/S tire with a heavy rim protector.

Default Just in case, because I found out on my 2000 by accident,...

are you aware that if you have the side view mirror selector for the remote adjusment wheel set to the passanger side mirror, the mirror automatically dips to show you the curb when you put the car in reverse? I have a 2000 A8L

Default Dunlop makes a tire that has a wheel guard that extends over the edge of the wheel.

I think the model # is the FM-901. I've used them on 2 of my customers cars and it's probably the best protection from curb rash on the edge of the wheel.

The summer Bridgestone Potenza 730s I used to have on my 98 M3/4 had rim protectors. I can't tell from the 750 photos if they have them as well. Yes, chat with the Tirerack guys - they're car people.
