all else being equal. I would personally interview the people who did the service on these cars, examine the records, ask questions, city or hyway mileage, compare manurfacturer maintenance schedule with actual records. Did authorized service people do the work, or someone's buddy? bottomline- these cars will run forever if cared for properly. Maintenance and repair records are analygous to gene maps in humans.

Either one could have a bunch of problems with it, and mileage has nothing to do with it. The timing belt etc, must be replaced at 90K miles.

As priced by Edmunds.com.
A lot happens to a car getting to +100K miles that's mainly just wear and tear, even with solid owner maintenance. Stuff just breaks or wears-out with that much operational time. Mr. Ricco's comments above are right on the money. Good luck in trying to get all the details though. I'd go with the lower mileage car and try to work a better deal from the seller. 15K miles/year is about average. Either way, run a car report and have a qualified tech look over the car. Make sure they can judge the condition of the transmission (+$10K replacement cost if its bad).

Speaking of Higher mileage A8's, Does anyone have a list of what I should be anticipating in repairs and preventive maintanence as my 2000 A8 approaches 90,000 highway miles. Yes, I drive a lot.
Thanks, |
