Default On-Man Brake Bleeder

Griot's Garage no. 159 has a one-man brake bleeder on page 63 for 188.00. However, on page 35, there is a similar device with larger capacity for a lot less. It looks like it has the same head mechanism except for the lever clamp. Hmmm...

Anybody ever bought one of these?

Thanks,

Mark

Default Sounds expensive.

I built one for <$30 in parts at Ace Hardware, and Randy (ryoung) posted a pic of one in the last couple of days for much less. I'll add a link here in a minute, after I find it.

Default ABS

Thanks for the link. I almost forgot about the special treatment I have to give the ABS system when bleeding.

Default I have that bleeder

It works but I wouldnt buy it again. The problem with any of the vacuum bleeders is the air leaking around the bleed fitting threads. I cannot tell when I have purged air from the brakes because there is always air in the drain line. If you are just drawing off fluid then it isnt much of an issue.

I began using a home made pressure bleeder when I put my GTI rally cars brake system back together, which gives me a much clearer indication of air purge. Not quite as convienent as the vacuum to use though.

I will probably continue to use the vacuum bleeder for the periodic fluid change but use the pressure bleeder anytime I open up the system and need to be sure air has been purged.
