Default Free carfax report says it's a "Fleet Vehicle"

You may have already seen the NBC money article with a link to one free carfax run for this weekend only.

I ran my "courtesy buyback" VIN and found that what's probably the USA's only Santorin A6 2.7T went to Wisconsin via auto auction. Interestingly it was listed as a "fleet vehicle" at auction, so methinks passing CarFax's "Lemon Check" is no indication of anything....

Default Carfax says they have lots of info

but all they really know is what was told to the DMV. Fleet vehicle could mean a bunch of things, no? Maybe you need to pony up the $17 and ask the humanoids there what they are really trying to say.

If you're in CA, you can go to the Auto Club and ask them to run a more complete record search. The Carfax on my Mercedes came up clean, the actual DMV records at the Auto Club showed that the car came off lease unnaturally early and went into auction before ending up at the selling dealership.

Default

Mine came up with emissions tests, and service notes from when I had aftermarket warranty work done.

Default Re: Free carfax report says it's a "Fleet Vehicle"

Usually means the car is a former lease vehicle. But you probably knew that already.

Default I have seen the same result with a bought back BMW as well

It also was a purchased (not leased) car that was replaced for defect reasons and obviously sold some time later. Same deal as yours, "fleet vehicle" came up on the search.

Definitely a loose seam in the lemon law process.

Default my old lemon listed:"fleet vehicle" -hate to think someone bought it!

Sold at auction as a fleet vehicle. I would love to know what happened to it after it was bought at auction (back in Dec 2002). Does anyone have access to more detailed info? FYI my vehicle had MAJOR problems when bought back by AOA. Hope nobody on this board is "proud owner" of that POS!
