Default Mercedes Benz C43 kicked my ***!!!

I went up against this crazy car... we pulled up to a stop light down "airport" road up in Everett, WA, no cars in site, pane field on the left, boeing manufacturing plant all around us, huge airplane hangers in the back ground (great setting!). And get this, we were lined up at the only stop light within miles of us and the only cars on that strip was my S4 and his C43. Too perfect???

So I'm holding the rpms at about 3k and he's blippin the throttle of his 4.3l V8... the light turns green and from then on everything was a blurr. Tires chirp from both cars and I can hear his V8 mixed in with the turbo whine of the S4. I take him pretty bad all the way up to redline in 1st gear about 1 car length ahead and I'm thinking, "hell yea, I got this guy!!" Then I chirp it into 2nd and now he's closed the gap to about 1/2 car length, uh oh this car is pretty damn fast. It's getting kinda scary fast now, but I go to 3rd and I go to 3rd like there's no tomorrow and my life depends on it! By this time he's caught up and he's walking right by me... we hit about 100mph and I think I was just about to shift to 4th but he braked hard after 100mph and almost 2 car lengths ahead of me... I saw the damn C43 and //AMG badge in the rear. Well, that was a good 1/4mile run, the temp was very good for the S4, about 70deg on a nice night with plenty of cool night air.

What a good run, too bad I lost. I want a piece of that guy again after I chip my S4.

Default I'm guessing you are stock? I took one on the four-oh-five...

This was back when my car had the CE light on due to a bad MAF and I was in limp mode. Up to 130 mph, (starting from 65 or so) he gained about 1.5-2 car lengths. Not bad. I assume...now that my car is all fixed and happy, i'd like to try it again. Yes, this was at 3:30am the night before a final exam =)

Default Yup, I'm 100% stock...

so you were chipped when you raced one? Or were you stock with the CE light on when you raced it? I guess we can eventually catch up on the top end? Our race ended right at about 100mph.

If you are stock, you will need to launch at higher RPM, something like 5k, to get a very big lead which will probably hold to around 100 mph, where he sould draw about even.
Chipped, you launch at 3.5k with the technique describe on this board, and not only will you lead early, but with high boost you will continue pulling throughout the range. Been there, done that.
New C32, forget the above, get more mods.

Default Be thankful the thing turned out to be a 3700+ lbs tank. If their projected 3450 would have been

true, the C32 would have been seriously fast.

Default Well...you witnessed first-hand the advantage of an automatic transmission (edited)

....in the Car & Driver comparo, the S4 ran a 14.1 to the C43's 14.8 (Road & Track and Motor Trend both got 14.4's in the C43), but bear in mind that the C43 is an automatic, and is going to be a lot more consistent than you will be with your manual, so you'd have to drive very, very well to win, pretty much perfectly if the times R&T and MT got are taken into account, and even then if he had a hot one off the production line, you still might not take him. They also said that over 100, the C43 was faster than the other cars in the C&D comparo, and since the other mags got even better times, he'd probably have gotten you eventually, no matter what.

This is why I think it's funny that the E46 M3 guys are all stoked that their M3's are going to win each and every race against the C32 or the CLK55, because the MB's mag times are a few ticks slower than the M3's. A few ticks slower in an auto means that 90%+ of the time, the auto will win in a street race. The SMG tranny will help, but those manual M3 drivers are in for a surprise...

Anyway, a carlength or two in the 1/4 is only a tenth or so, so he really didn't "kick your ***" if it's any consolation.
