Dual Mass Flywheel - slipping?
My daughter has a '97 A4 quattro w/1.8 tubo. We had the front axles changed. It drove fine for about one week. One morning she started the car put it into reverse and it would not move. We thought the clutch went out, so it was changed. (The old disk and pressure plate looked ok and not worn out.) The car worked fine for about one day, then it happened again. The clutch pedal seems fine, it sounds like it engages as you release the pedal, but the car will not move and a wurr is heard under the floor. This happens in all gears. After talking with a friend he thought that the dual mass flywheel may be able to slip and should be changed. Is this possible? or Is it likely something else? Thanks for any help.

The DMFW develops "play" as it ages, I would think it'd be unlikely that it would slip though.
It incorporates stops so that the floating center *should* only move so far, but; I have seen interesting things happen to supposedly "failsafe" designs before.

i doubt your clutch/dual mass are causing this problem
usually a clutch gives you a bit of warning...
master/slave don't make sense because you say you still get pedal feel... hmmm
through out bearing? no that had to be replaced when you did the clutch...
trans? yikes that would suck. but it makes more sense then flywheel.
What about the shifter mechanism? Is the car going into gear smoothly? Are you getting an actual grip onto the gear? Usually if your clutch goes you can't get into gear at all.... so.. i would guess your trans is shot or else WAIT
axles changed? that could be your problem right there... they may not be tight enough/spindles are slipping... the bolts fell out. That explains the whole problem...

Update and thanks for the help....It was my front axle comming out. It was not seated well. Car is working now and hopefully will for many more miles. So it wasn't a dual mass issue, it was just a dumb *** issue. thx
