Q5 Carbon on exhaust tips
#21
Does anybody have advice for removing the carbon build-up on the chrome exhaust tips on a 2014 2.0T? I hand wash the car several time a week and when it was new the carbon came off very easy. Now at 4,100 miles it no longer wipes off with a towl or sponge and is getting harder to remove. Any tips?
Then what I do is put some simonize on the tail pipes.. Buff Buff Buff
Volia it's done.

Actually octane can effect it. Not sure if Audi does this but many cars are programmed to add fuel if it detects knock, and by running slightly rich it can leave deposits on the exhaust tips and the back bumper of the car. They really do need premium if you are going to push it at all. Under a load it could just be throwing a bit more fuel...

If you log a late model GM car it shows the same thing but there are typically hidden tables that deal with fuel as a result of knock. On the new 2014 Stingray you can actually now alter the tables and how much fuel is used as a result of knock (knock enrichment), but it had been in the cars for years, just not always accessible. I'll post a screen shot on Monday when I'm at work and have the laptop.
