Default Engine just shut down on the highway. Will not start. ECM???

97 A4. No CEL light while turning on ignition. Engine will crank but nothing. Recently replaced the Ignition Control Module (2 months ago). Could it be related? Could it be a fuse or relay? If it is the ECM does anyone know where to get one rebuilt/used, etc. Or would anyone have one for sale themselves? Any help would be great. Thanks,

Look for your camshaft position sensor - probably it disconnected or the wiring went bad.

This happened to a friend and the engine will just crank and not start.

Good Luck!

Default

Yes, no CEL usually is a bad ECU/ECM.

Ordered a used ECM with a Stratmosphere / Oberscheider O.CT Tuning chip. Hopefully that will work and I won't need a Camshaft Position Sensor also. Read where B5 cars do not have to be recoded due to the immobilizer feature but might have to be recoded for the instrument cluster functions when an ECM is swapped. Does anyone have any info on this? Thanks again for everyones help.

Default Are you chipped? A solder point may have come up. Very common actually!

Otherwise, you now have a tanked ECU.

Default Looks like it is fixed....

Recently replaced the ignition control module. Replaced it with a new aftermarket by Huco about two months ago. Mechanic said that this was defective and tanked the ECU. After replacing the ICM and ECU and replacing the plugs (flooded with gas), it works great. Bought the ICM new from Import Specialists. They no longer carry the Huco brand (for obvious reasons) so they replaced it free of charge. Kudos to them. Now, if only they would pay for the ECU replacement. Thanks!
