So any hope for iPod?
We had a brief flurry of excitement here with the news that an iPod adapter would be available for the C6. But it seems the part in question is actually a part for other Audi models. Do we have any hope?

YES! There is hope!
According to Becker-Harman (they made the entire Multi-Media-Interface MMI):
The current Panasonic CD-Changer is not able (upgradeable) to play MP3 files, therefore this CD Changer needs to be replaced by a new model which will be available in June 2006.
In addition, the i-Pod Interface in the glove box will be provided by approx November 2006. Dealer can install that.
This info is from a letter that Becker has sent back in Jan. 2006, after asking them about the status of an MP3 solution for the A6.

As far as I understood the answer from Harman-Becker,
CD changer and i-Pod Interface will be separate solutions, so you can use the i-Pod interface w/o need for a new CD changer.
Most probably I'll take the new CD changer, because it's out earlier. However, at the end we have to see the price for these MP3 solutions and I fear it will be in neither case a cheap one...

Or maybe longer
We've had two "near misses" already; the iceLink Fibre (MIA) and the incorrect information about an Audi iPod kit.
I've been playing MP3s since 1996. Seems really dumb that a car built in 2005 is incapable of playing them. It's a shame the car platform is effectively closed to third party innovation.
