Default 12v turbo rebuild and install

I finally have been able to start re-installing my engine. It's been slightly over two months since I removed it for a complete rebuild. Hopefully it will be up and running by Sunday.

Here are the specs

JE 8.5:1 .020" pistons
stock rods
balanced internals
raceware headstuds
arp rod bolts
port and polished head
shimmed valvesprings
2.7tt headgaskets
tdl unequal length headers
upgraded clutch
there's more I just can't remember it all
should be good for around 450HP @ 18psi.

Here are some various pics of the install and parts

Here is the 60-2 wheel, and magentic sensor and bracket required for the crank position for the Tec-II. The pic is fuzzy, but it is the only one I have.

You can see on the intake manifold the low-impedance 550cc injectors, fuel pressure sensor, and 3bar fuel pressure regulator from a 1.8t replacing the stock 4bar one.

Here is the piping joining the exhaust manifolds together prior to the turbo. You can see the flanges that need to be welded on to fit the headers.

Finally the turbo and downpipe T3/T04E .63a/r, the boost control solenoid, oil pressure sender and 02 sensor can all be seen.

What engine management system are you using for the turbo?

Electromotive TEC-II in parallel with stock ecu.

Here is the write up I did on the install a few months ago

Default Very Cool Rob. Let us know how it goes...

I'll be doing the same thing (minus the turbos and Tec-II) by the end of the year. I think the pistons just arrived and TDL is working ont the engine as we speak.

I guess the next step for me will be to go for the TEC-II. Hope you won't mind lots of stupid questions...

Default Also, did you have the engine bored out to 2.86?

If so, are you at all worried about it holding up with the turbo? If not, why not?

Thanks,
Scott

280 what? If you're talking HP, he's shooting for 450...

I went .020" overbore with the pistons which gives an actual displacement of slightly over 2.80 liters. No worries about strength with such a minimal change in cylinder wall thickness. I went with .020 over simply as a matter of convenience. Also, any bigger and I wouldn't have been able to run the 2.7tt HG.

Default What's the advantage of using the 2.7tt Head Gasket?

I would assume that it is stronger since it's meant for a turbo application...am I correct?
