Default Front brake question.

I'm doing maintenance on my brake preparing for summer. I remove the caliper and the brake carrier to clean it. I was surprise to see there is no stainless shim between the brake carrier and the brake pad where the brake pad slide. Is our car does not need thoses or they are just missing? Thanks.

Most pads now have a bonded pad on the back of the actual backing plate. No more shims.

Ok sorry I'm not talking about shim but about the anti-rattle spring. Are we suppose to thoses on the front brake?
