Fuel System being replaced on 2014 Q5 TDI
With only 34,500 miles my 2014 Q5 TDI needs it's entire fuel system replaced. Thank god it's under warranty still. Car died 80 miles east of San Diego. Not fun. Anyone have a similar problem? I sure hope I can get an extended warranty after 4 years.

'Entire Fuel System' is pretty broad. Exactly what failed? The high pressure common rail pump (I believe there were some issues with them in earlier models allegedly due to 'insufficient lube' of US fuel)? What was the symptom?

Well they said the fuel pump went but they found ugly side effects, including shavings in the gas tank, so they are replacing everything...injectors, lines, etc... Symptons were no acceleration then would not start at all. Happened after a long up hill mountain climb.

Loads of this on TDIClub, Pees. Typical repair is approaching $10k.

Ouch!!! Makes me glad I bought an extended warranty! As soon as it expires its new car time! Hopefully by that time Dieselgate will be a distant memory and Mexico will be fully up and running.

Definitely need affordable extended warranty insurance with high deductible to keep the premium down. I don't mind a $1000 out of warranty repair, but not $10,000!

VAG has been covering the majority of repairs. They're trying to encourage folks to file a report with NHTSA when this occurs.

Here is a very fresh story that has yet to be resolved:
HPFP blew on 2014 Sportwagen TDI with 30k miles, VW won't help - TDIClub Forums
This identical scenario has repeated itself over and over.

Makes me really question whether to buy another VAG vehicle... damn, I wish Porsche wasn't under their big umbrella! Wonder if it had been an Audi if the coverage would be any better?
VW has never had a good service reputation.
