Ah thought it was a 2.0T I didnt read the first page, just saw the picture and asking what that was. I dont think its as big a deal as the chains are not quite a tight when the engines off and been sitting compared to a tightly tensioned belt so he should be ok to remove that bearing plate/upper head portion without messing with the chains.
