how to get much better mileage without driving like Nana
My dash insert was incorrectly coded when I bought the car and as a result the trip computer was all
all over the place.
I recoded soon after purchase but my milage has always seemed high.
Tonight I did an adaption via vagcom and my consumption dropped dramatically. It feels great with the lower numbers on the display even I know that it is not yet accurate. I will run some numbers through the next few tanks and re adjust to as accurate as I can.

my computer is more accurate around town
when I'm doing mostly city driving, I average about 18 mph and about 14-15 mpg. The computer is pretty accurate on the mpg, I assume on the mph as well. If anything, it reports mpg 10% worse than actual.
when I go on a long highway trip, I average about 21-22 mpg, but the computer indicates 24-27. I don't think adaptation will fix that city/highway split.
I'm wondering why it happens, though.
