Hey Guys,

on my 2004 A4 the driver side window is making crunching noises when going up and down, on the way down it makes the crunching noises but it goes down with out stopping. On the way up is another story, it makes the noises till about 50% up then stops and goes down about an inch and stops, then i try to push it up again and it goes all the way up with awful noises again. i know the sound sounds like the cable is getting crunched somewhere, is this a complete regulator replacement? cause i did some reading around and there was a mention of a clip? anyone knows what clip?

any insight i would love majorly

Hi.
Sounds very much like the regulator has failed . It's probably putting stress on the cables and stretching them which is why there's resistance on the way up. The clip you refer to I think is a runner guide, which to my knowledge is not a changeable part on this vehicle, meaning new regulator.

Assuming it is the clip, the clip is changeable; I've done it. See link below; it is the lime green piece near the end of the pictures. Did mine about a year ago and got the part from second link.

Having said all that, double check and make sure the crunching is not the plastic gear that has been stripped out. My window simply wouldn't go up and down with the tabs broken on the clip; no strange noise.
