Default All my 3.0 peeps, is 17 mpg combined avg?

65% highway 35% city. No lead foot and using cruise control on highway. Any thoughts on how to improve fuel economy or is this normal?

Thats pretty poor. You should be getting closer to 24 or 25. No check engine light? Dragging brakes and low tire pressures can be easily checked. A plugged exhaust can have a dramatic effect on fuel economy. You might take it to an exhaust shop if you suspect this and have them back pressure check it. Melted down blocked converters wont set cat codes or engine light because so little exhaust goes through that it tricks the system and never sets a code. Dead oxygen sensors or a mixture problem would have an engine light with codes. There pretty sensitive to emission failures.

My mpg is 17.1 and there are over 125k miles on the odometer. Last weekend I changed all coil packs, plugs, and air filter. I've been hoping mpg would change. Getting 25 mpg would be awesome.

I have no engine light codes whatsoever. So your saying that Melted down blocked converters would give me poor mpg? By converters you do mean the cats correct? Car sounds great so I don't think I have a blocked exhaust. Just bought it not too long ago.

You really cant tell by sound or anything. And yes i mean the converters. To be sure an Exhaust shop would just pressure check it and find out if its ok. Mufflers can come apart inside too and block the way and reduce mileage. Other than that you must have a heavy foot lol.

Will go and see what they say, and report back. And i do admit at times i like to drive with style but for this particular study I forcefully drove slow, accelerated slow, used no heat or air and used cruise control. And still only got I believe 17.25 mpg to be exact.

Default way too low, on my 03 a4 3.0 with 200k I routinely got

22-25 MPG.

Of course, 93 oct only. and mine was a 6MT.

Yup 93 Oct only. Just replaced spark plugs going to see what that does, previous owner had iridium ones and they looked fried.

Changed spark plugs. My cats and exhaust are not blocked or clogged the muffler shop says. Getting 18.5 mpg now with new plugs. Going to try fuel filter and see if my air hoses have any build up.
