HELP!! Gas tank cover won't pop open and I'm almost out of fuel!!!

I pull the cable with one hand and pry up the cap with my bare fingers of the other
Last year I was always able to get it open this way.
This year I've been spraying the little spring with WD-40 every time I wash my car. So far, it has always popped up for me.
