new s6 owner. what is normal time to get to operating temp?
We just upgraded from our b5 a4 avant to a well maintained low mileage 2002 s6. After driving it a few days, I've noticed that it takes a bit longer to get to operating temp - going by coolant and oil gauges in dash. Is it just in my head? I understand the turbo on our old a4 helped engine warm up faster. So what are you other s6 or 4.2L owners seeing for car warm up times? It is around 55/60 degrees outdoor temps and car is garaged. It takes roughly 10 min or 7 miles of 35mph driving to get to normal temp.
Car has 66k miles, and on original timing belt. I'd appreciate any input before I go replacing the temp sensor or thermostat.
Car is great, otherwise. I could not believe it handles better than the lighter a4 on factory sport suspension.

My '02 S6 is garaged, and gets up to temp within a few miles, with oil coming up quickly thereafter. Possible your thermostat is getting sticky.
Mileage might be low, but I would suggest changing the timing belt. Trusting the S6 4.2 to a 12 year old TB is rolling the dice, IMHO. Belt material breaks down over time. Fresh coolant isn't a bad idea either after 12 years. If you're comfortable doing your own work, spend a day or two doing a full timing belt/waterpump/thermostat service. Otherwise, plan for $1-1.5k for an independent Audi shop to do the work.
I would also suggest changing the fluid in the tranny.
Love mine, it's a solid car. Just turned 100k, hoping to get 250-300k out of it.
