Default lift the cams to replace?

One more question:

When I go to replace the cam tensioner gasket, I put the engine at TDC, then I have to use the #3366 tool to lift the chain tensioner? I am a bit confused about that part, though I haven't popped the cover off yet to look at it. From what I have read so far, it seems as though I can lift the cams just enough to carefully get the old gasket out with a small pick. Does anyone have any pictures or a better description of this? Do I have to loosen the cams in order to lift them?

Your supposed to, but some people cheat and just slide a new gasket in. I'm not a big fan of that route. I tend to do the following, this way everything is done in one fell swoop:
1)Replace:
-valve cover gasket set and cam temsioner set
-cam caps and seals(including the position sensor seal.)
-crank case breather hose/0-rings
-cam chain
To lift the cams, you'll need to loosen/remove the bearing caps. These will then need to be retorqued to spec in the factory procedure. I can not stress this enough, you should really get your hands on a copy of the factory manual. I don't want to be an alarmist, but there are a number of places within this above mentioned procedure where one can get themselves into alot of trouble. Its also worth noting that tool #3366(see pic) should not be screwed down too much or it can damage the tensioner.
Regards

Default Agreed - that is the right way to do it

I am going to see how much space I can get with just the #3366 tool. If I can get enough to remove the old gasket and clean it properly, I will go that route. Otherwise I will have to go by the book and I really don't want to start messing with removing the cams.
