Default S6 Transmission Slipping?

Hey guys,
have been noticing lately that when I punch it, the tranny would downshift, rpms would rise, then they would drop about 200rpms before the car would start moving. If anyone with an s6 or even a6 could please let me know if this happens to them as well it would be greatly appreciated.
It usually happens cruising at about 50mp/h (90 km/h), I would put my foot down (about half to 3/4 of the way down) to pass, the tranny would downshift 2 gears (for example, would bring the rpms to 4500), then the rpms would drop to about 4300 before starting to climb again. Just wondering if this is the start of tranny slipping, or maybe just the engine blipping the throttle for downshift?
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm no tranny expert but my last BMW had tranny slip, the so called "lifetime fluid" BS. Anyway, even with the slightest slip the tranny would detect a fault and go into limp mode. If you have a VC see if it stored any faults. If the tranny is not slipping, your car might need to have the throttle and/or tranny tuned and setup properly. I have an A6 not a S6 and after changing tranny fluid and doing an adaptive throttle reset my tranny feels much different, there was a little lag which is now gone. Good luck...

Could anyone else please check confirm?
Also noticed that when cruising in 6th gear at low speeds (rpm at around 1500), I could slowly press harder and harder on the gas until it "downshifted", the rpms would jump to about 2000rpm but would still indicate 6th gear...

That is normal. It is the result of the torque converter unlocking. If you put it in Tip mode that should not happen.

Our car certainly does the same...it's just the lock-up torque converter un-locking (as noted by Schwarz). It was noticeable in this car for some reason.

As others confirmed, that's normal. You'd have to punch it a bit harder for it to truly shift gears.

Thanks everyone for all the input, makes me feel a little bit better. Will change the trans fluid and report back, hopefully will help with the 2-1 downshift if anything.
