I have been curious on how the new Goodyear F1 allseason will run on the allroad
as I have said before I bought a set for my sons '03 GTI 20th. He is a very young (17) driver so not much expirience with tire performance, other than he has stated that the new tires are a lot better than the others in the rain. Others were a Michelin, a tire that VW spec'd for that car. They had 18k on them. I know, not much help here.

I have read the Pilots are not a good match for the allroad...
as that would be my #1 preference, but have yet to read a good review here. The Falkens a decent tire, but myabe something a little better than that. I have had the Falkens, P6s, WRs, Icebears, and some type of contis on my allroads. The icebears and WRS were the best in the snow for obvious reasons. Snow isn't a huge factor for me - I live in NJ and we get some now and again - I see more of it when I go skiing in VT.

Yep, I live in NYC, the way our winters have been going lately if it wasn't for my VT and NE trips..
I would have definitely gone with either the Falken 512 or P-Zeros Nero M+S.

Re: Have 24k miles on 17" WRs and still running fine
About 6/32 tread remaining at the start of winter. Not as aggressive in snow as they were originally but still great on water. Getting noisy and a little stiffer ride. This will likely be the last winter on this set of WRs, more due to the noise and ride, but don't like to run winter tires under 5/32s. This is the 4th winter on, the first year I ran the WRs into July. I would buy another set if priced competitive. Only had some issues with balance on dual spokes, on the Rials no vibrations!! Never been road force balanced either. Tire guy doesn't need one.

Same problem as you, it took several times to balance the tires and they did
shake for a while.....now they are perfect but I'm not all that impressed......they are great in the snow and beleive me they have seen a $hit load of that in the past month. Will see this summer how they are.

Contis have very weak sidewalls, My friend has them on his A4 and has gotten 7 separate bubbles...
over the last 3 years. He's been able to get them replaced under warranty, but every time he had to replace them with the same tire. But they are not a good tire for the Northeast and our horrid roads.
