Default Going Over to the Dark Side

My 2010 Audi Q7 3.0 TDI was getting a bit long in the tooth, so I decided to replace it. Unfortunately, the current Q7 is more than I can afford to pay; so I have a 2014 MB ML350BlueTEC on order. I just turned the Audi in to the dealer for an early trade-in yesterday.

"DIESELQ" has been one of the better cars I've owned, and will be missed. I hope the MB does as well.

This forum has always been a big help to me during the almost 4 years I've had the Audi. I wish you all well!

PS - Since I no longer have the Q7, I posted in the Classifieds to sell some filters for it at a very good price.

My wife and I just checked out the ML BlueTec at the Northeast Auto Show. I've become a huge diesel fan since getting my TDI back in Aug., and we both really liked the interior/exterior looks and size of the ML - bigger than the Q5 and [seemed?] slightly smaller than the Q7. Prices for the ML seem very reasonable and looks like they're going for about invoice (according to Edmunds TMV). Will definitely consider the ML when it comes time to replace my wife's SUV.

Good luck with the ML.

i shopped both the GL & ML bluetec v. the Q7. the ML is smaller, the GL is bigger. don't pay sticker, you should be able to do several $k better than that. we went with the Q7 because price wise it was better than the GL and we needed more space than the ML offered. not to mention i have a S8 and got $1500 owner loyalty for that.

we were both very impressed with the MB product.

I can bore you to death with horror stories about MB vehicles and MB USA relations. I am glad you like the ML. Sadly, MB makes some beautiful cars but I will never be a customer of theirs again.

Hope you enjoy your new car!

I've owned a MB vehicle continuously since 1972, and am quite familiar with MBUSA. In my experience, MBUSA and AoA are not all that different.

How do you like the engine? I've always found that the ML and GL engines have a mild level of traditional diesel clatter that's refreshingly absent in the Q...mine has almost 60K and so far the engine has been quite clatter free

My experience in comparing a 2007 MB ML320CDI with the 2010 Audi Q7 3.0 TDI is the opposite. The MB diesel was much quieter. People could not tell it was a diesel; whereas withe the Q7, they can.

Just a reminder that, due to my going over to the dark side, I have several Audi Q7 3.0 TDI filters for sale at a bargain price. See here:

The filters are still available.

Also, having now driven the MB ML350BlueTEC for almost 6 weeks, I feel I'm able to make a somewhat objective comparison. The Audi Q7 3.0 TDI felt like I was driving a well engineered German luxury automobile. The MB ML350BlueTEC feels like I'm driving a Chevy.

I miss the Q7, and will probably give the 2015 a serious look when it comes out.

Hey Dutch,
before you go, just want to say thanks for your Adblue trick you posted on AZ a few years ago. I haven't tried adding adblue yet on my 2014 Q5 TDI, so I don't know if the trick will work (or if I even need it), but will definitely keep your park-uphill trick in mind. Good luck with your Bluetec. Personally, I think the whole lot of German makes are great vehicles. Just comes down to personal preference and money.

EDIT: After reading your above post....Welcome back! LOL
