Hi! This weekend I passed 10,000 miles on my 98' 1.8T. I thought that I would get a warning like I did when I hit 5,000 miles for an oil change. Actually, the first oil change warning went off at like 4,300. Ihad it changed then...and really should have had my second one at 9,300 i guess. Do you think that the service dept turned off the warning permanently accidentally? Have yours gone off?<p>Also...I am ordering my new cell phone tomorrow...a Nokia 5120. Am going to try to get the nokia handsfree kit and use the FAQ to get the installers to make it work with the existing A-pillar mike. Wish me luck. I hope it works!

I've always been told, "Change your oil every three thousand miles." Now, granted, this has been pounded into the American public by Pep Boys more than by manufacturers. I see obviously uncared-for cars motoring around that I know are ten model years old and probably have on the order of 120,000 miles and probably haven't been taken care of judging from the rust complement. But, while Pep Boys would rather you change your oil more frequently, it always disturbs me when I see auto manufacturers saying, "You can go (insert insane number) miles without an oil change." Riiiiiight... not in MY car.<p>Personally, I'd say between every 3000 and every 5000 miles, you should get an oil change... and you shouldn't trust the computer to tell you when to get an oil change. Five oil changes every 20,000 miles, use that as a reference. With a turbocharged engine use a wide temp-range synthetic (Mobil 1 15w50 seems like the preferred vintage on this forum) and change the oil (and check its level) a bit more frequently than you might with a normally-aspirated engine. If you drive particularly hard, look into the Mobil 1 that was produced specifically for turbos (993 Turbo had this stuff from the factory, I believe).<p>The phone FAQ seems to have worked okay for others, good luck on your install.<p>Cameron<br>
