My S8 has had a small oil leak for sometime that I've had a hard time tracking down. Right now the car is having the transmission rebuilt so the transmission is out of the car. I took some photos underneath the car last week and taking a look at the pictures now realize that this would be the perfect time to replace the rear main seal (if leaking). Does the above picture look like a rear main seal leak? I can see a leak from the rear of the RHS valve cover and all the oil in the picture could be from that.

I'd appreciate any input into what a leaking main seal would look like (and if the picture above indicates that).

Sure does. I would most definitely replace the rear main seal while the trans is out.
