2001 S8

Hey D2 Owners,

I've noticed recently a vibration/thunk when my D2 shifts from third gear to forth gear. It only happens on the first shift from third to forth. After the first pass from third to forth; all seems normal. It's really noticeable when it's really cold outside. Where I live the temperature has struggled to get above 0 Fahrenheit or -18 Celsius.

I'm getting a transmission service (Audi fluid and Audi filter) on 2/17. I'm hoping this is the remedy.

NOTE: I had my mechanic check the ATF fluid level and condition about 6 months ago and he said level was good and condition was clean but not brand new.

Any thoughts?

Mine does almost exactly the same thing.
It's not rough, just a slight thump from 3rd to 4th.
First change of the day only, then perfect and smooth changes.
I'll be servicing mine soon too - new bunch of cleaners and conditioners certainly won't do any harm!
