I also read those comments and was concerned when I picked up my 2011 Q5. First time washing it, I doused the back with water and opened the hatch. No water went inside. I have checked everytime it rains and on a dozen occasions now I have yet to get water inside. YMMV

If your 1st priority is excitment, you will be happier with the BMW. They handle better and they are more fun to drive. Audi is more of a all around car, its good at everything but excel at none, well maybe the interior excels. BMW excel at performance, but it is average or below average in other areas.

I think that is exactly what has kept me stuck. I actually feel more comfortable in the Audi, but in my mind the BMW has more of a 'wow' factor overall....and I'm not talking about looks. The Q5 is gorgeous.

That is a very fair sum up. I'd say the q5 is pretty close to pure driving enjoyment as the x3 2.8. The 35i is hands down an exciting drive a la BMW.

The Audi is more a total premium luxury experience with good comfort in a sporty package. It excels in superior interior quality, ambiance, meticulous construction and is perhaps the worlds best built car for the money that represent value for money in the category. I cross shopped a similar priced ford edge for example. It was nice but at the same price point despite having some extra toys it just did not have the value. I thought it's value at 12-15k less.
