Are you talking about what is known here in the states as a catch can? Placed in the PVC system to collect oil vapors that can collect on the intake valves and form carbon buildup? If that is the case, IMO, you don't need one.
Catch cans are useful (some say mandatory) for gasoline direct injection engines. Audi's direct injection system is known as FSI; many of the newer Audi's have this and a catch can can be helpful in avoiding the carbonization issues that plague these cars. None of the D2 chassis cars have this system, though; the valves are bathed each cycle with a fuel-air mixture. If you have an FSI engine, then maybe you are posting in the wrong section.

Default Catch Can?

Nickid, IMO if you have white sludge in your breather tubes, you have a serious problem that a catch can won't correct. Find the cause of the sludging before your engine is ruined. Moisture in the oil causes sludge formation. This can be caused by short trips without letting the engine reach full operating temperature, or by a coolant leak into the oil system. Any sludge on the inside of the oil filler cap? How about the inside of the valve cover? Make sure you change the oil with a quality synthetic oil. These engines are not prone to sludging issues, but under the above conditions, any car can form sludge.

I think you answered my problem. I only drive a few miles these days since I had my back indury.
will just need to let the car run a bit before driving and take a nice detour on the way too and from. lol
