Default a4 avant...2.0t vs. 3.2 v6

I'm looking at a couple pre-owned A4 Avants, one with the 2.0 turbo and the other with 3.2 V6...both are roughly the same price.

Any recommendations or feedback on the differences and pros/cons of either engine? What would you choose, all things considered?

Thank You!
Chris

Default do you want to mod?

if you want to make a lot of engine mods, get the 2.0t, not a lot of mods avail for the 3.2.

the turbo makes it seem a little faster from the light, so if you want to drag race honda's at red lights, get the 2.0

if you want "better controlled" speed while running on the highway, get the v6

Default Very happy with the 3.2. Loves to rev, unlike the 2.8 in my previous A4s.

Has about the same power as the stock 2.7T in my old allroad. More importantly, it is very smooth and quiet at idle. I spent 2 hours driving a 2.0T and 3.2 back to back before I decided to order the 3.2. It was simply more refined. Plus, it is the first Audi engine I have had that does not use a drop of oil. Finally, it has a lifetime timing chain, not a timing belt.

Ive got a 3.2 and would suggest the turbo, its roughly the same in power but with a bigger kick so more sensation of speed. The added benefit is in the fuel economy for when your cruising. Maintenance costs are roughly the same although the 2.0 will require a cambelt at some point whereas the v6 has a chain.
My car has done 68k and you should check out my post on rough idling which could end up costing me plenty!!!!
Beware with FSI engines, the inlet valves can become clogged up with carbon and it might not take a lot of miles to happen, they also require regular oil top ups whereas the older 20v engines never needed this. I had a 1.8t for a couple of years and never put a drop of oil in.
The valve issue comes from the FSI or fuel stratified injection, audis direct set up. As I understand it the fuel particles are so small they never reach the whole valve body which leaves the deposits, in older engines the larger particles cleaned the valves as they went. Or so Im told.
Anyway the v6 is the worst for it and the 2.0 turbo is not so bad.
The only benefit with the 3.2 is it does seem to come with a lot more toys and its quattro as standard.
If you want performance and tuning options get a 3.0 v6 tdi, S4 performance can be achieved and it will do 50mpg if you want it to. Plus theyre all quattro as standard too.
Hope this helps.
