Newbie question on A4 CVT
#11
I have a 2011 CVT. It just got replaced, under warranty, at 45000 miles.
Overall I think it's a brilliant transmission for my daily 30 miles commute in Los Angeles. It's super smooth. When you need to make quick moves on the freeway it instantly gets you into optimum torque and you zip off. No waiting for a downshift and that sudden lurch of power.
I've had 2 quattro loaners while my CVT was in the shop. quattro is SO MUCH BETTER. That FWD has torque steer: if you floor it, you better have a good grip on the wheel. The FWD will lose traction if you're trying to go around street corners too fast. The FWD just doesn't feel solid going quickly around fast curves. The quattro just sticks and makes a much better car. Plus the tiptronic is a very nice tranny. Maybe not as buttery as the CVT, but it's quicker off the line and very smooth overall.
Everytime I see a quattro I want to stab myself in regret.

New Audi and dissapointed
My company just purchased my 2014 a4 with CVT. It now has 50miles. Many mention the lag in CVT from a stop and I'm not sure if mine is excessive or not. My wife's 09 minivan would destroy my a4 from a stop until probably 40mph. In fact my 2014 Camry hybrid was 10x more responsive. If I punch the gas from a stop it takes about 2 seconds before the trans decides to get moving. It is so significant that I think it could have an impact on safety when I need to turn and go through oncoming traffic. Does this sound excessive? Is it possible that a brand new car could leave the factory with this type of issue?

2 whole seconds? that's not right. The CVT isn't that laggy. It could be that it's still in "learning" mode. Mine gets moving just fine. If I stomp on the gas at a stoplight it starts going plenty fast for everyday driving.
What happens if you put it in Sport?

Unfortunately mine doesn't have sport (at least I don't think). Has the same lag if I put it in M1 though Still a full 2s lag. I'm really not happy about bringing this thing home and having this issue. Taking it to the dealer today. I hope they make this right. I can't believe audi would let this out of the door. I was already hugely deflated about the lack of Bluetooth for iPod integration and no standard backup camera or sonar. Then this....

Of course you have Sport. It's just one past "D" on your shifter.
The base Audi is garbage. You get nothing. No LED, no folding rear seats, no compass.... I regret not getting a P+
