Default SOLVED

well i purchased a new cable and that didn't work, so i thought i would live dangerously and order a portable harddrive and try that.

it works great! havent had any issues and i have 100 gigs of music on it...i guess the jump drive just wasnt compatible with the ami system for whatever reason, but now my wife uses it in here subaru.

thanks guys!

Well, I was afraid of getting USB 3.0 cause I wasn't sure how the system would like it, so I hunted down a USB 2.0...transcend is the brand. 500gb was like 60 bucks

FWIW, all USB 3.0 devices are backward compatible with 2.0 devices, albeit limited to 2.0 speeds. The only 3.0 connector difference is the addition of two extra pins which are ignored when used with 2.0 devices. While you might be able to save a few bucks with an older USB 2.0 drive, either version should work fine with the AMI>USB 2.0 cable.

Thanks, and yeah I know about the UBB 2.0 and USB 3.0 differences and compatibility, and that it should work. I was also told all flash drives SHOULD work and they didn't so I figured i would try to cut out any variable that could cause issues...

But for anyone in the future, USB 2.0 will obviously be less available if at all so we should see how the work!

Thanks all
