Quick questions for all you Diesel buyers. I know better mpg is a big plus for the diesels, but isn't that somewhat offset by the higher price of diesel fuel, as well as the higher price of the car itself and inconvenience of not having diesel fuel available at many stations?
I didn't specifically buy mine for the fuel economy, granted it was a considering factor. The premium over the 2.0T is $5,300 which I think was well worth it coming from the 2.0T. Prices at the pump are negligible here in WA maybe a 10cent difference. In the 50k miles I keep the car the premium for the TDI comes down to about $2,500.

You can cruise around below 2.5k rpm and still out accelerate most normal cars. To get the same performance from a gas engine you have to be screaming it at 6k rpm. It means the performance is on tap without needing to drop a cog or two when going for an overtake etc.
For manuals it makes creeping in traffic much easier - you can just ignore the throttle as a TDI has so much low end torque.
The economy is only beneficial if you do over about 12k miles a year and most of your journeys are over 25 miles. Diesels are MUCH less efficient than gas when warming up so if you have a 3 mile commute everyday you will lose out.

Benefits of diesel? As identified, the torque curve, driving dynamics give you the performance of a performance car without the penalty of 12 MPG. If you want to pass someone, lean on the throttle and you're gone, typically barely breaking 2.5K on the tach.
Gas mileage. Don't assume the SUV you're trading in is running on regular no lead. Mine wasn't, so when I compare diesel prices to gas prices, I compare premium no lead, because that's what my previous SUV recommended, and I used.
Longevity, diesels have proven they will run forever when cared for. More than a gas engine? I have no immediate proof, but I believe they will.
For the original poster - great choice, you'll love it. Looks like either Phantom Black or Black Panther. I've been very happy with mine since picking it up in August, and the fuel savings - not the reason I bought it - is nice too.

As some of you mentioned, the low-end torque of the TDI is... insane. I remember I was on a slight incline and need to pass a car in front of me. That very same action feels a bit sluggish on what was my 2.0T until the engine roars above 4-5k RPM. With the TDI? It barely reached 2.5k and I was gone.
This morning I floored it and... I actually scared myself lol.
It's a Brilliant Black P+ /w Nav, with black leather and my favorite: Aluminum inlay.
As some of you mentioned, the low-end torque of the TDI is... insane. I remember I was on a slight incline and need to pass a car in front of me. That very same action feels a bit sluggish on what was my 2.0T until the engine roars above 4-5k RPM. With the TDI? It barely reached 2.5k and I was gone.
This morning I floored it and... I actually scared myself lol.
It's a Brilliant Black P+ /w Nav, with black leather and my favorite: Aluminum inlay.

@ Bob..I think everyone above hit the nail on the head. It was night and day coming from my 2011 2.0T. Liked the 2.0T but LOVE the TDI. Every time I hit the "fuel" peddle it brings a smile to my face. I also tow a trailer and there's much less gear searching.
