Can you use
Can you use WD-40 to loosen the spring? Sorry but I don't think we get Sea Foam here in Asia.

Thanks to all for the helpful replies on this thread.
We can post a DIY on www.GruvenParts.com or even on our product page for the intake link arms if you guys want.
While we are looking at this, what other items need the "billet" treatement on these cars? Feel free to email me directly with suggestions.
As always, those who bring us new ideas get new parts to try out.
Its exactly how these came about

I just rec;d the rods from gruvenparts- they look real nice, high quality. while I'm replacing them it makes sense to clean everything up and replace o-rings and seals. I was wondering if anybody knows of anyone who sells the o rings and seals around the intake manifold rods? I went to the dealer and they told me the only way to get those parts is to order a new intake manifold (for $1300)- yeah right. It seems crazy to me that these small service parts cannot be purchased

As for the seals, again, if you cannot find them locally, let us know. The same deal goes for the seals. Email us.

QUOTE=Perpetual Novice;24263202]believe it or not, those little diaphrams can pull about 40 lbs force on that tiny arm. the problem is caused by the magnesium castings that surround the black plastic arms corroding, and then the arms start to bind.

just wanted to bump this thread back to the top. we now have a handy DIY on the product page of the site which will help you in replacing and cleaning the manifold to ensure it works properly.
Can someone post a source for the vacuum pod itself? I have had several ask me for a source, i thought it was also available for certain cruise control systems on Land Rover vehicles, and it was very inexpensive. Can someone post that info to help others avoid the Audi dealer entirely !? I will include the info in the DIY article on our product page.
Audi/VW 4.2V8 Intake Linkage Arms !
GruvenParts.com 4.2L V8 Intake Manifold Linkage Arms Warranted for Life !
Got a 4.2L V8 Audi or VW ? Then you had better check your intake manifold actuator arms Audi/VW P/N 077-198-327A (077198327A)! The OEM plastic versions quickly break, leaving your intake manifold rod stuck which causes poor idle, drivability, loss of power, and poor fuel mileage. This is a very common problem on the Audi/VW 4.2L V8, an otherwise great engine. The dealer will only sell you a repair kit for nearly $400, and each repair kit only comes with 1 of each length linkage arm. If your vechicle has 2 broken linkage arms, you would need to buy 2 dealer repair kits (cost nearly $800)!
Our Billet intake manifold arms are made from aerospace grade 6061-T651 aluminum with specially machined black Delrin inserts to provide a perfect fit to the actuator *****. These parts are warrantied for life!
Dont go to the VW/Audi dealer and pay upwards of $400 for the new actuator kit when all you need are the arms (the actuators themselves rarely fail). And DONT pay that kind of money for another set of plastic arms that will break in quick order.
Go with GruvenParts.com and NEVER WORRY ABOUT THIS AGAIN !
Fits the following vehicles:
2004-2007 VW Phaeton V8
2003+ VW Touareg V8
2002-2004 Audi A6/Avant
1998-2004 Audi A6/S6 Quattro
2000+ Audi A8/S8 Quattro
Replaces OEM P/N 077198327A (077-198-327A)
