Dumb question... KX upgrades
Ok, so I've put out a feeler for the BLAU 272 cam, with mixed results. I'm going to get a triple outlet exhaust manifold. What are some good upgrades for the CIS-E system? This car had a solid lifter 1.7L, and last summer I swapped in a KX which I pulled from an 85 Quantum. The head is shaved, for a "higher" compression of 9:1.

Don't worry about "dumb questions"!
Did you swap over the F.I. along with the engine?
I assume you did 'cause you went from 4cyl to 5...
I would get an adj cam sprocket from Techtonics tuning, you time the cam to suit the KX's power band, I would also do a K&N air filter, disconnect the "Hot" air intake from the exhaust manifold, and crank the ignition timing up to around 12deg advance.
I would also look into the lowest restriction and most likley loudest exhaust system you can stand/afford!!!

another dumb question.....compression
So I know just enough to get myself into trouble on these cars. My question is. How do you explain compression. By shaving the head it make the piston chamber smaller/shorter, thereby increasing the pressure once the piston is brought up from ignition? Make sense? What does tha actually do?

yes you're correct, it usualy affects torque more that anything else...
Especial low end torque, but there are many other factors that affect the engines power band...

Stroker is just when you increase the pistons actual downward travel
This is acheived with a differnt crank shaft, its big with american engines. It possible to get some crazy number out of a trusty small block chevy with simple bore and stroke upgrades.

But is there always room for a larger cranshaft?
Seems like the ones (case's) I've seen don't have alotta room in there. The lager crankshaft must be just barely larger (millimeters probably equate to alot). This means that the rods are the same length of course, just a longer throw. But what about the piston chambers being able to handle the extra length? Must be on the downstroke? Sorry, just curious.

actualy, the travel is increased in ALL directions!!
Basicaly you install a crank shaft that has the crank throw positioned farther away from the center, this makes the piston move father up and down, necessitating different pistons too!
This increases the volume of the cylinder when the piston is at the very bottom, increasing the "cubic displacement".
You can achive the same thing by "boring" out the cylinder, making the diameter larger, thus again making the volume of the cylinder larger!

Many times you have to grind out the inside of the block or "clearance it" as it's called...
The pistons must be replaced too, the new ones will have the wrist pin placed farther up inside, compensating for the lonngr stroke.
ALSO, allot of stroker engines use logner rods too (this is where it starts to get complicated, but you're doing this to reduce "rod angularity" and make the engine run smoother), so you now have to compenstae AGAIN with the wrist pin!!
