Default VAG-COM, CEL, APR chip, Boost, and Timing...

I posted this on the VAG-COM forum yesterday, but there was no response. Please excuse the cross-post, but I'm hoping to confirm so I can place my order! (Perhaps there was no response because this is a commonly asked question over there.)

--- x-post:

Last week, I posted over on the C5 A6 forum about some peculiarities with my recent APR chip upgrade ('01, 2.7T, 6sp). Overall, the upgrade is great - as everyone with the chip upgrade would say. However, I have noticed that the car often feels like it is lacking the grin-inducing power that the chip provides - it just feels like the chip isn't there.

My question here is if the VAG-COM will be useful to gather information about boost pressures and timing - two variable I think might be causing the presentation of symptoms. I am nearly the certain the VAG-COM will provide this info and much much more... initially, I wasn't going to buy a VAG-COM to diagnose just this problem, but my CEL came on yesterday. I am nearly certain this is from a mis-fire condition (caused by the ailing spark plugs that I really need to replace). I figure if I can kill all these birds with one stone, I can finally justify the VAG-COM purchase.

What say yous?

Thanks in advance,

JWeb

Yes, a VAG-COM will monitor and log boost, fuel delivery & engine conditions. And checks codes.

Default Have you checked the obvious stuff???

Is your throttle body boot torn? Are all the clamps tight in the intake path? Are you using new/improved diverter valves?

Cheers,
