Default "Gearbox malfunction" error message due to defective "transmission filter"

I have a 2009 A4 2.0T with 11,000 miles on it. Over the past couple of weeks the car has been slightly "jerky" with the shifts of the automatic transmission, which I didn't necessarily pay much attention to (it wasn't that terribly noticeable).

Anyway, this weekend an error message popped up on the dash saying, "Gearbox malfunction - limited driving available", coinciding with a temporary inability to get the car to move when the shifter was in the R position."

Took it to the dealer and after a day and a half of investigating, they determined I have a faulty "transmission filter." Anyone know what that is? (A filter for the transmission fluid?)

Unfortunately, they said the part is out of stock, on back-order, and may take up to 4 weeks to get one. Not sure why a "transmission filter" would be such a rare item. Seems like they could go to the assembly line and steal one....

I have 13k miles on my 3.2 and have felt slightly jerky shifts as well. I thought it was my imagination or something, because it is pretty minor. However im sure it was smoother when I first got the car. I am going to mention it at my 15k service.

My 2009 A4 3.2 automatic with 10K has your exact errors and is in the shop at the moment.

However I would get a "gearbox malfunction error Reverse gear is unavailable" and wouldnt reverse.

My car is at PaulMiller Audi in NJ and they are replacing the transmission filter also..The service rep said also something about "air pocket" in the transmission?

Hopefully its ready on Monday. Will keep updated. Oh and there is a TBN for this issue. Ill post the number when i get it.

Informed that replacement part is backordered. Car has been
at the shop for 7 days and counting. Service advised could
be another 10 days before part arrives. Zzzzzzz

So doing my best to rack up as many miles on their loaner
A4 as possible =)

I know the B8 is a new platform, but geeez you would think Audi would have plenty of trans. filters at the factory?
