Default '93 V8, 128K miles, 2342 code.

I have a '93 V8 with 128K miles. Just got it the 1st of Feb. Ran and drove fine up until last week. I was driving along about 75mph, and she lost power. Bogged down and the check engine light came on. Let her cool off, and got her home. Pulled the codes and she throws a 2342. Took her to my mechanic and told him what happened, expecting him to put a new 02 sensor in...and that was a week ago. He still hasn't put it in because he "doesn't think that would sause it to lose power." I'm a little...peeved.

Am I crazy thinking the O2 sensor would cause these symptoms? My plan now is to just pick it back up and do it myself, or bring it elsewhere.

I searched 2342, anything else it could be?

Yelp a O2 sensor can cause this. A quick check would be to remove a couple of plugs and see if the car is running rich. O2 sensor is used by the ecu to determine if the engine is running lean or rich. O2 sensor usually last about 60,000 miles. Usually the O2 sensor is seized and unless you have it on a lift rather than lying on your back, you will never get the leverage to remove the O2. Just take it a muffler shop or a local mechanic and they should be able to replace the O2.

Yep. She appears to be running rich. Giving her a full tune up and new O2 sensor and hopefully she'll be good as new.

I have an appointment tomorrow to get the O2 sensor broke free. Once it's movable, I'll be able to replace it myself. Then all the parts to give it a full tune-up will be here on Friday.

Then I can tackle the oil leaks. Joy.
