ABS Module finally and want to share
Today, I reinstalled the ABS Module in my 05 A8.
This followed a long journey for about a year. I had the screwy ABS, brake, speedo and a bunch of other intermittent problems. Late last year, I knew the problem was the ABS module, but i could drive it and it was cold and my garage isn't heated. With the weather nice, I decided to tackle it. Before doing, I wanted to make sure i could remove the module without disconnecting the modulator pump and brake lines. Yes, it can be done but it's not easy and it's in a tight spot.
Next, I started looking for a "how to" and Googled like crazy. I also emailed several "Module fix-it" guys but didn't get a definitive result. On the Cheap-ABS site there is a "how to video" for a 2005 A6 / A8. Well, the general concept is the same but the A6 is not the A8 and it's like doing brain surgery from the opening where the sun don't shine. I've also messaged several people on this forum and the information wasn't 100% correct. With some ideas, I was able to muddle through and I no longer have stupid warning lights, lack of speedo and beeps.
I want to give a shout out to Matt at Cheap ABS. Although the video on his website wasn't definitive for me, I'm happy with the way things worked out and the turn around. Matt was also helpful with the logistics of sending, receiving, etc. With that said, if Matt wants it, I'll be offering to send him the video I made doing the job on my 05 A8. I'll also be putting it here on Audiworlds soon too. However, "soon" means when i can figure out how to upload it (actually multiple smaller video segments) from my phone to Youtube and edit it into one video.
Bottom line, it can indeed be done on an 05 A8 and if a fat old guy (Age 72) like me can do it, any of you young kids can. (perspective of "young kids' is anyone under 60 yrs old)
