Audi will be left behind again with BMW's 2007 328i/328xi/335i/335xi sedans
I may have to get a Bimmer when my A4 lease is up in September 2007. 300 hp and 300 lb-ft with the same gas mileage as the current 330i (21/30 mpg for 6MT) is something Audi cannot touch. Too bad the E90 sedan's exterior and interior aren't as as nice as the B7.
Audi needs to put the 3.6 liter 280 hp V6 in the A4 and bump up the 2.0T to 230 hp soon if it doesn't want to be left out in the cold.<ul><li><a href="http://www3.shrani.si/files/07303my0737760.pdf">2007 BMW 3-Series sedan product announcement</a></li></ul>

Audi is most likely waiting for the B8 to come out before they try to go head to
head with BMW. I do think that the B7 cars still could use 20 or so HP to stay in the game before the B8 arrives...

280HP 3.6L VW motor is a VR design for transverse apps only...will never go in an A4.
Increased displacement/HP of the 3.1L FSI sounds much more plausible.
A4 2.0T 200HP = no direct BMW competitor
A4 3.2 255HP = BMW 328xi 230HP
S4 340HP = BMW 335xi 300HP
RS4 420HP = BMW M3 400HP (No AWD on the M3 though.)

even the saab 9-3 has more HP than a 2.0T...
BMW will have no direct competition with the A4 2.0T next year.
Their plan is 328 = 3.2 / 335=S4 / M3=RS4
i am happy with my 330i though. 255 is enough.

I'll give you it might have better gas mileage...but cheaper...not by much.
MSRP S4 6MT with metallic paint, Premium and Cold weather = $50,895 including destination.
335i = $38,700 add about $2,000 to get to the 335xi + $1,000 Cold Weather package + $2,450 Premium Package + $1,600 Sport Package + $1,450 leather + $800 Xenon adaptive lights + $995 power front seats and now you are at $49,000 add $695 destination and you are at $49,695. The difference of about $1,200 is definitely made up for by the Audi's 40 extra ponies.
