Default Selling an audi online... need advice...

Selling my 99' A6 online for $8600.
I got an offer from someone saying they would send a certified check for $16,000 and I was to refund the difference and they would then arrainge for shipment of the car.

This is the second offer like this on the same car. I passed up the first one because I wasn't sure about the offer, but after getting a second offer like this, I was wandering if I should just do it...
Need to et rid of the car for more upgrades so I'm anxious to sell...

If the bank takes the check, then what does it matter about the rest...right?

Default WRONG

Ignore those offers, they are not genuine.

I'm shocked you haven't heard of the "Nigerian Scam".

Default Use common sense...

Would YOU ever give someone 5k or so more than the asking price on anything? Plus, trust someone to refund the difference or forward to a third party.

TabulaRasa is right, do a search for Nigerian scam. Here is a quick link for ya, sound familiar?

http://www.snopes.com/crime/fraud/cashier.asp</a

Default CLEARLY a scam. This one of the most popular scams these days.

Almost every item I've put for sale on the internet has had a similar "offer" put in on it.

I'm calling it:

SCAM.

Default SCAM!!!

"Certified" check is counterfeit.

You are responsible for the funds until the check clears the issuing bank (which it won't).

The scammer hopes that by the time it bounces back, you have already sent him the difference and possibly even the car.

Default The check will come from an international bank and it will probably be a forgery

There are loop holes for international checks that allow a check to clear your bank before the funds are actually verified in the payers account. So the check clears and you send the refund. After a while the original check bounces and you're left holding the bag because you wrote a bad check against those funds.

SCAM!!

Default My name is Mr. Mobutu...

I will give you a check from the Central Bank of Nigeria for $65,000 USD, if you sell me the car, you can keep the rest for yourself.
