Motorcycle BT: Battery Tender and Battery replacement?
Tried to start my bike this weekend and it spent so much time on the stand the battery doesn't have enough juice to start it anymore.
What are people using for tenders? They seem to range in price from about $40 to $100+ but I'm not sure what I'll need.
Also, how often is everyone replacing their batteries?
Maybe it's worth it to put a kick start on my DRZ...

all depends on how you treat your battery
and the charging system on the bike. If its sitting its good to tender it. Otherwise just take maintenance precautions like having a fully filled battery and have it charged/tendered.
advice will vary though

Battery has never been a problem before.
Bike has never been sitting more than 2 weeks before.
I think it's a sealed unit but have to check to confirm.
Wondering if I should try to charge the battery (new in '07) or just replace.

charge it and go from there
unless you depend on the bike I wouldn't replace it and try to get her back going. Cold weather is usually better for batteries than the scalding heat.

Yep...sealed. It's been off the tender for over 24 hours and holding charge. Riding to work Friday
Do MC batteries have a similar life span compared to car batteries?

Ive never had a bike battery last that long since they go through heat cycles
more often than car batteries. same with the drain and recharge on them. they usually take a beating but if you keep a check on her she might be fine.

Troof. If you take care of it...
...i.e. remove and maintain it during the winter it should last quite a while. 3-4 years is not unheard of. The heat cycles really depend on the bike and what conditions you ride in...but that will shorten the lifespan as well.
