Sounds like BS to me. I think we both had our cars in there around the same time for the 5k service and they definitely didn't overfill my oil. I also haven't heard anything about S6's consuming oil. But even if that is true, overfilling the oil typically makes oil consumption even worse. It just doesn't make sense.

That's what I am hoping. That my oil might be overfilled, but not by so much that it's a serious danger.

So do I need to tell the dealer to take out all of the oil, and measure the total volume?

Or do they just remove until the warning goes away, and measure that?

I think you had the right idea in your original post. Pay for an oil change even if its out of your pocket. And when they drain it, they can obviously tell you how much oil was left in the engine.

Scheduled for Monday. I'm going to see if they will pay for it since they overfilled.

Took car in today. They started removing oil, but the warning light went out almost instantly. Not even 1/8 quart too much oil.

We decided it was OK. Had only been slightly overfilled.

On the plus side, they said my car is their absolute favorite S6 they see come through the service department.

Glad it worked out for you. But hate to break it to you they like my S6 better. I base this on how long they like to keep my car around. For example my car being there for the past week despite it should have taken only a day or two.

SubterFuse,

What dealer do you go to? I'm a little worried they think overfilling is "ok".

North Orlando

Mike Shinn is my service advisor. I really like him a lot. He really takes good care of my car.

Good to know. I may give him a shot. I wasn't impressed with their Sales Department so I hope their service department is better. Thanks again!
