What do you guys think of the Kumho ECSTA ASX for the summer and then getting a 16"/17" steel rim for the winter with some decent winter tires?

I have had several tires from several manufactures and I found the Kumhos same if not better than some of the other more "established" brands -- so please do tell, as a search in this matter is as valid as the whole Chevy vs. Ford debate.

In short they are attractive for the money and ok in dry.The other condition is tires are a different animal on allroads and peoples experiences have been less than favorable.This is not a personal thing for me other than my tire shop steered me away from them even though they are a dealer

I just bit the bullet a month ago as my Falken Ziex 912s were pretty worn down. I picked up the General Altimax HPs and so far am quote happy with them. General is also offering a $50 rebate on a set of four so my tire cost through Tirerack.com was $484-$50.

I've gone through 3 sets of Mich Pilot Sport A/S (245x50) and found them to be great, except for their tendency to tramline. I recently switched to Yoko Advan S.4 in stock size (225x55), because Mich updated the Pilot Sport A/S and it was no longer available in 245x50s. The Yoko's are about $60-$70 cheaper per tire. My impression is the Yoko's are less precise in turn-in than the Pilot's and dry traction may be less, but this could be due to the smaller tread footprint. The Yoko's are quieter and center tread depth is deeper than the Pilot's, so they should last much longer. I typically go through a set of Pilot's in 22,000 - 24,000 miles. For the difference in cost, I'll probably replace my Yoko's with the same when they wear out.
