You're fine. I turned in several cars off lease with tunes. Just let them know, it's not an offense.

Yeah, you arent responsible for that. But you should let them know because if it triggers a TD1 then the car cant be certified.

Wow, this is news to me. I've never leased and always thought they give you a real hard-a** time for excessive wear & tear at turn in. Stuff like scratches on the bumper or door dings that they love to charge you extra for. What if someone never even performs any maintenance on the car during the lease? Does that count against them?

You can absolutely do it. However, it will most likely low the residual value of the car. It will no longer be under warranty by Audi meaning the car is worth less as it can't be certified.

If you make friends with the dealer/lead tech you can sometimes sneak it by and they will take care of it for you.

So long as the VCDS mods are the typical, common changes, no one will even notice or check at time of sale or trade. Now if something is borked up due to making changes that affect the basic operation of the car, that's a different story.

What if you never put clean clothes on your kids or bathed them regularly. What if you never took them to the Dr. or fed them correctly. Would that count against you?
