Whining/Grinding Noise From Front Axles

Can someone describe the noise.
My sister has a 2012 A6 with the CVT with 17k miles and has a tinny/whiny noise come when making a turn either left or right. Its very faint I tried to record it but you can't pick it up and it doesn't seem to happen all the time. Its definitely not a "grinding" noise its more of a whiny noise.
I hope its not the transmission. The car does not see hard driving at all. If it is the transmission the repair cost without warranty is 9k which is insane IMO. Luckily have warranty for 2 more years but lets see how the car behaves in the next two years.
